Orienteering Relay Success

We only had one team entered in the HB Orienteering Relay Champs and the Haumoana School trio of  Scarlett, Milla and Lydia all had fast and accurate runs to finish over 3 minutes ahead of the next team and on the top step of the podium.
These first year orienteerers have been practicing after school on Friday afternoons with the Havelock High team for the last couple of months and made excellent progress.

Technology

Congratulations to the Room 6 technology team of Milla, Anthony, Kobie, and Coco who worked interdependently and creatively to solve problems at the Coastal Cluster Technology Challenge.

Two first places out of three challenges was an impressive reward for their work over the last week!

Today in maths . .

we were learning to use vertical algorithms.  Check out the video from Khan Academy HERE

Week 6

I hope you enjoyed the long weekend and made the most of the sun on Monday!

Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend the Learning Conferences last week.  If you missed out, please feel free to arrange a time after school so you can catch up with your child's learning.

This week in language, we will be reviewing our recent writing sample and proofreading and editing for accuracy.   We also have a focus on the use of consistent 'tense' for our recounts.

This is the last week of addition and subtraction. The class has shown a good understanding of a range of strategies to solve problems.  Ask them to explain at home.

We are fortunate to have Jamie come in on Friday to share and teach her flax weaving skills as part of our Matariki study.  Parent help welcome.

Events:

  • Four children from Room 6 - Anthony, Amy, Milla and Kobie are representing the school at the Coastal Cluster  Technology Challenge on Wednesday.
  • The final orienteering event for Primary children takes place on Sunday.
