Week 5

Welcome to the Week 5 update.

  1. Estuary visit
  2. Epro8 Challenge
  3. Parent-Teacher interviews
  4. Cycle Skills @ HBSP
  5. Senior Swimming Sports
  6. PATs

This week we have a group of children performing at the 'pou' ceremony at Tuki Tuki Estuary.  Four Room 6 children (Coco, Milla, Amanda and Jack) spent time last week painting the poem that will be erected near the estuary.  They were very patient and very accurate.

There are also four children attending the EPro8 Technolgy Challenge with Mrs Wynne-Lewis on Tuesday.  Good luck to Alex, Jack, Milla and Anthony. Check out the competition here.

Parent-Teacher Interviews take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.  If you have not yet booked.  Click here

The code is kuqze

We have a couple of Progressive Achievement Tests (PATs) to complete on Monday and Friday.

On Wednesday the class will be at the Sports Park for a cycle safety day.  We will be putting these skills to practical use later in the year when we will compete against other schools in a skills competition and when we teach the younger children at Haumoana School.

On Thursday, the Senior swimming sports take place from 1:00 pm.  I need a couple of parents to bring along their togs to compete against the children in a fun relay. Please contact me if you are available!  david@haumoana.school.nz

In maths, we are looking at multiplication skills and in Language, we will continue to work on paragraphing and accurate punctuation.

Hopefully, by the end of the week, the children will also have their own Blogs up and running.

IXL
Room 6 has been enrolled in IXL Maths.  Children will be assigned tasks to complete on IXL instead of using the Knowledge Books from last year. The school has subsidised the cost of this programme which has lead to improved results in previous years.  The cost for each child in Room 6 is $10 pa.  This subscription will appear on your school account.

Class Dojo
Link to this week's focus here: Episode 3/5 (also shared on Class Dojo site to which many to which many of you have subscribed).  Parent discussion sheet home on Monday.

CAMP
Now is a good time to start an automatic payment to pay for the Term 4 camp.

EAR BUDS
Children in Room 6 will be using an app to listen to their own writing.  This is to assist in developing more critical thinking skills and help with the editing of their written work.  Could you please supply them with earbuds to enable them to listen to their own work (no need for expensive headphones - my $2 ones are lasting well!)

This week in core learning

In maths we have been working on understanding 'position and orientation'.  Children from Rooms 5 and 6 put their map reading skills to the test in a practical way with an orienteering challenge around the school grounds using a map provided by HB Orienteering Club.  Most found their way around the course successfully.

Fastest time of the day went to Liam.
